- Formal Dedication of a Lafayette Trail Historic Marker recognizing the General Marquis de Lafayette and his stop in Carondelet while on his 1824-1825 farewell tour of the United States. This commemorative event will celebrate the enduring impact that Lafayette’s visit had on the people of Carondelet, St. Louis, and Missouri. In conformity with the spirit of republican education championed by Lafayette in his time and to promote a greater understanding by Americans of the ideals of freedom and democratic equality upon which this nation was founded, this event will be open to the general public.
- The dedication ceremony will last approximately one hour and include remarks from the collaborating organizations involved in the preparation of this historic occasion. - Ed Wheatley, "From St. Louis to Cooperstown: Legends Born and Made in the Gateway City."
- Hornsby, Dean, Musial, Schoendienst, Gibson, Brock... these are familiar Hall of Fame names for Cardinals fans and baseball fans more generally, but did you know that there are 55 players from the St. louis Cardinals in Cooperstown? And the St. Louis Browns have nine Hall of Fame inductees. Ed will present some stories of these individual players and show how much greatness has come through America's greatest baseball city.
